Meet to prepare lunches at Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark, Portland
Our Brown Bag Project provides nourishing homemade lunches to hungry people, delivered in person with friendship and care.
On Brown Bag mornings, we prepare up to 150 hearty, healthy, brown bag lunches, complete with hot homemade soup, for folks outdoors.
We prepare lunches from 8:30–10:30 AM, and then head out on the streets in teams, to offer lunches to folks under bridges, standing on street corners, huddled in doorways, and in downtown parks.
The more volunteers we have, the more people we can serve on Brown Bag Day, so jump in and help! Here are food items you can make in advance and bring, or drop off with us even if you can’t stay:
– Home-made applesauce
– Hard-boiled eggs
– Cookies, brownies, and muffins
– Good quality fresh fruits
– Home-made soup
People living on the street face hunger daily, and even low-income folks often have very little to eat. People without homes or jobs have little guarantee of a “next” meal, and even working parents often skip meals so their children can have food.
Everyone deserves a decent meal. Our program is small, but every lunch we offer makes a difference for someone.
