The 13th Amendment of the Constitution abolished slavery, but it includes a gaping and insidious loophole: wording that allows forced servitude as punishment for a crime. "13th" is a full-length, Oscar-nominated documentary by director Ava Duvernay (Selma), exploring the history of mass incarceration of black men in America.
Second Sunday Potlucks offer opportunities to share delicious food and thoughtful conversations that both challenge us and buoy our hearts with fresh perspectives and a renewed sense of belonging. Honestly considering the crisis facing our country, we'll find our humanity deepens as we become more able to hold the presence of contradictions, confusion, commonalities, and compassion.
Second Sundays will feature great food, good hearted folks, and meaningful conversations. After supper, we'll shift to our scheduled topic for larger discussions.
