The Turning: Winter Solstice | December 21

Celebrate the Winter Solstice

Friday, Dec. 21, 7:30 PM.
Doors open at 7:00.

Friends Meeting House
4312 Southeast Stark St. (map)

In the space of a breath – a heartbeat – on Winter Solstice, a fine ray of light shows on the eastern horizon of our dreams. We’ll gather on Solstice night to celebrate.

Kavita MacMillan and Sean Frenette will cast musical nets around our hearts for us to chant with and dance with as the evening unfolds.

Dancers and dreamers, artists and activists, workers and wanderers, come! As the Sufi poet Rumi wrote,

Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving.
It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair!
Come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times.
Come yet again, come, come.

Kavita Kat MacMillanWith music and poetry, candlelighting ceremony and circle dances, we’ll turn all we are leaving behind into rich compost for the seeds of beauty and hope we are planting for the coming year.

Sean FrenetteCome for community, poetry, shared ritual, and simple circle dance, to bow to this moment of mystery and turn our hearts toward the light.

Advance tickets here. Suggested donation $25 (sliding to $10).
(That’s a donation page – just write in your amount, click  “Write us a message,” and write “Winter Solstice.” )

Your contribution supports our Brown Bag program, feeding people who live outdoors.
Hot tea, cider, and sweets will welcome you before the ceremony.
Kids who are comfortable with contemplative spaces are welcome, too. Under 10: free. Or 11-17: $5.

Purchase tickets now on our Donation page. Just write in your amount, click  “Write us a message,” and write “Winter Solstice.” Advance tickets will help us plan the space and the program. Your contribution benefits our Brown Bag program feeding hungry folks on our streets. Cash, check, or card at the door. Modest means are not a barrier – everyone is welcome.

Living Earth’s programs nurture spiritual resilience and compassionate action.  Want to share some warmth and kindness?  Please bring new or almost-new hats, scarves, sox, jackets, anything to help folks stay warm, as part of our Winter Warming project.

TRAVEL TIP: Avoid the “Peacock Lane” area that creates dense traffic between Stark & Belmont near SE 41st!
BEST PLAN: Take either E. Burnside to SE 47th or Hawthorne to SE 49th, and cut over to SE Stark. At Stark, turn west to SE 43rd and find street parking.

Join us for this beautiful evening of love, hope, and beauty! Advance tickets here, on our Donation page. Write in your amount, and write “Winter Solstice” on the comment line.  Modest means are not a barrier. Everyone is welcome. Everyone.
