Community Gatherings

Gatherings & Celebrations

These community events are opportunities to connect on the path.

Getting to know each other as friends enables us to ground everything else in relationship. So in addition to spiritual practice, projects to ease suffering, and programs to address social and political concerns, these come-as-you-are activities are chances to get together as just folks, enjoy community, share a meal, explore a trail, and share the everyday beauty of life.

Gatherings & Celebrations

Sunday Potlucks are on the first Sunday evening of each month, 6-8:30 pm, at Friends Meeting House, 4312 SE Stark (outdoors during summer).  After dinner, a video clip, short talk, or article usually provides a frame for focused discussions. Or themes are impromptu, arising from what’s going on at the time. Everyone is welcome. Bring a veg/vegan dish to share and join us.

Picnics

Living Earth Picnics are scheduled during warm months, usually at Mount Tabor or Laurelhurst Park. Dates and locations are announced a couple of weeks in advance.

Hikes & Outings

These off-the-pavement outings come up now and then between March and October. In town, they are usually at Mount Tabor or Laurelhurst Park. Day hikes are generally somewhere within 90 minutes of Portland. Dates and locations are announced two weeks in advance.

Celebrations

Seasonal celebrations round out our year. We started with Winter Solstice in 1998 and it is still an annual highpoint. Summer is time for our Inter-dependence Picnic on July 4. Other impromptu gatherings, potlucks, and celebrations pop up through the year.
