A Community Discussion
Sunday, June 22 | 4:00–6:00 pm
Friends Meeting House
4312 SE Stark, Room 12
All are welcome, fully accessible.
This is quite a time, and we can’t sugar coat it. We can’t afford to ignore the injustice and destruction coming out of our nation’s capital this year. Rash attacks deliberately target the most marginalized or undefended. They may destroy all that is best about our country, eroding trust and bonds, and disempowering the people.
Building solidarity and affinity, learning from each other and validating what is best about us, we’re determined to obstruct the heartlessness and deliberate chaos. We find our greatest strength, resources, and support in community and spaces where we’re connecting, caring, listening, sharing, and breathing together.
These affinity gatherings are “heartening spaces’ with lightly shaped structure, not focused on one specific issue or action. The scattershot attacks on our cities, families, communities and institutions wear us down in many ways. By gathering we cross-fertilize and build friendship and trust, but we also listen and learn and explore a range of creative, caring, projects underway that we can launch or connect to close to home.
The tasks ahead will call for many skills and ideas that will be vital assets in the months and years ahead. Everyone is needed. Everyone has something to offer. Taken together we can weaken the storm and hold up our own piece of the sky here in Oregon.
RSVP or contact us, via this link, but just come by if you can. Free.
Please note: We will have tea and very light snacks, but not a meal or potluck, as we won’t have use of the kitchen.
Optional donations to help cover the rental costs can be dropped in the bowl or jar at the event or made online. The spirit of generosity and appreciation keeps the wheel turning.
