Paraphrasing the Buddhist vow:  wounds are numberless; we vow to tend them all.
hands catching rainGlobal pandemic. Economic collapse. Police brutality and social injustice. Climate chaos. Systemic racism and white supremacy. Poverty and hunger. Voter suppression and electoral manipulation. Ecosystems crashing, rampant extinctions. This list could go on and on.

Countless fraying nerves in our society are suddenly exposed, demanding reckoning in this pivotal time. In the future, this year 202o may be remembered as a time of clear vision, when ragged bandages were finally ripped off, long-neglected wounds were exposed, and painful truths had to be confronted.

Countless wounds – personal to local to global – are crying to be tended, and responses both tender and bold are needed. Actions are needed that are urgent and bold as well as tender and mindful, if we hope to heal the grief and division, the broken hearts and broken dreams of lives and communities across our country.

Since spring, Living Earth has delivered hundreds of surgical masks to Black Resilience Mutual Aid in Portland, and 2,000 masks, along with boxes of hand sanitizer and wipes and cases of foods to the Tribes of the Warm Springs.

We’ll make another trip to Warm Springs in November with another 1,500 masks, sanitizer, and food.

Give Now

What you can do to help:

    • Purchase local grocery store gift cards for Black individuals and families traumatized by the surge in racist aggression and violence. We can coordinate distribution.
    • Gather quantities of household items: soaps, cleansers, diapers, toilet paper, and personal hygiene goods) are needed, along with cases of packaged or canned soups, beans, pastas, veggies and fruits; tea bags and coffee, sugar and creamers are also welcome.  We are distributing these goods through mutual aid networks in Portland and through the Tribal Health and Wellness Center at Warm Springs. Purchase cases and Living Earth will coordinate distributions.
    • Sew homemade masks for kids and families.
    • Knit and crochet hats and scarves for adults and children.
    • Purchase store-bought sox and underwear for men, women and children.

If logistics are difficult,  give here and we’ll do the shopping. Give what you can. Every bit of help matters, whether a few dollars, a regular pledge, or a larger designated contribution. Please note MUTUAL AID when you donate.  100% of support gifts marked for “Mutual aid” will provide food and other basic needs, fire recovery supportand  Covid-19 supplies, household products, and other needs for BIPOC communities in our region.

Donations are tax deductible. Our federal tax ID number is 93-1331068.
